Waimarama is a highly skilled Māori Registered Nurse with a specialised background in mental Health and addictions nursing. Most recently, she joined the National Public Health Service, Te Whatu Ora as an Āporei (Principal Adviser) in Strategy, Operations and Planning. She co-led national Māori workforce development plans, and contributed to a Tiriti led Hauora Māori Tūmatanui directorate. She held a number of significant roles within Ara Poutama Aotearoa including an Improving Mental Health Practitioner in Rimutaka Prison, Clinical Nurse Specialist at Mt Eden Corrections Facility, and Senior Adviser – Toi Ora team in National Office. During this time she actively contributed to and lead key work programmes and projects aimed at enhancing Health Services to better meet the needs of our disproportionately Māori prison-based population.
Waimarama’s qualifications include a Bachelor of Nursing and a Post Graduate Certificate in Nursing. She has also successfully completed the Huarahi Whakatū Dual Competence PDRP with Te Rau Ora at an expert level.
Outside of her professional life, Waimarama has a love for travel and has particularly enjoyed spending time & eating plenty of kai in South East Asia, South Korea and Central America.
